The survivors of the Southport Massacre return in 2025 with Hollywood’s rising stars for the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel.
When whispers began of a modern sequel to the 90s horror classic, fans clung onto every piece of information. So, you can imagine their excitement when the first look at The Fisherman released in late-April.
At the time of the original’s release, Jennifer was early into her career at just 18-years-old. But her role as Julie James undeniably cemented her icon status.
The only downside for Jennifer was suffering injuries in the first and second films. While filming the first film, Jennifer was accidentally hooked in the eye, causing her to go “blind.”
“I think people didn’t know, or don’t know, that I actually got hurt on both movies with the actual hook,” she said on Extra TV, explaining the hook was not plastic.
“He hooks through this grate and he actually hooked my eye, and scratched my eye… I went blind.”
She was then hooked in the ankle in the second film!
It also brought together one of Hollywood’s favourite and long-lasting relationships: Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

What is the plot for the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel?
The 2025 film is about to become the third movie in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise, serving a direct sequel to the second film, I Still know What You Did Last Summer which released in 1998.
Like its predecessors, the sequel follows a group of friends who are haunted and killed off by The Fisherman. Gruesome murders begins one year after a terrible hit-and-run accident, where the group receive a letter which reads ‘I know what you did last summer’ – hence the title.
Given this isn’t the first time a killer with an ice hook has gone running around town, the group seek help from the two survivors – Julie and Ray.
“This isn’t the first time there’s been violence like this in Southport,” Ray said.
“I have just one question,” Julie stated, before asking, “what did you do last summer?”
Aside from a bunch of new faces, the plot largely appears to be following that of the original 90s film.
In the 1997 movie, Julie receives a frightening letter, warning that someone saw the group commit a horrific crime. Four friends, Julie, Ray, Barry and Helen, attempt to hunt down who they believe to be responsible for the letter.

Who is the cast of the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel?
The long-awaited sequel, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, will see Jennifer and Freddie reprise their roles as Julie and Ray respectively.
Despite Helen Shivers demise in the slasher, the director confessed to Entertainment Weekly that she wanted to reprise Sarah Michelle Gellar’s role.
“I tried, okay? I harassed her! But she is dead,” Jennifer told the publication. “I tried to pitch some crazy s*** too. I was like, ‘What if it’s like you weren’t dead and you’re actually alive, but in hiding?’ And Sarah’s like, ‘I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but what if?’ And she said, ‘I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.’”
But a new instalment comes a variety of fresh new faces, including Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), and Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty).
Also joining the cast is Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, and Tyriq Withers.

Where is the sequel filmed?
Watching the crew and cast fly into Australia to film the sequel was a joyous few months! Madelyn Cline, Freddie, and Sarah were all spotted in Sydney attending events or simply flying into the country.
